One more word about term of service. If Player A is in the right back position and is serving, upon the referee's signal she can toss the ball, let it drop or catch it, wait for the referee to signal "re-serve" followed by a second signal to serve, then toss it again and legally serve the ball. She can only do the re-serve once each time she rotates to the right back position (regardless of how many serves she legally hits over in this term of service). While this is the basic rule, a complication arises regarding the "re-serve" when Player A, above, uses her one re-serve for the current term of service, and, before ending her term of service (bad serve, loss of rally/point)Player B subs in for her. The $64,000 question, now, is can Player B also use one re-serve (toss and catch the ball or let it drop) as she continues the *team's* term of service? The answer is, "Yes." The re-serve is allowed once per term of service *per player* in that term of service. Technically, in the above illustration, the players have each used a re-serve during their *individual* terms of service totaling 2 re-serves during the *team's* term of service. With these volleyball terminology quiz questions under your belt, you have completed 1/5 of the total volleyball quiz.
